Can anyone tell me how to install vlc

i am having trouble using vlc
plz tell me how to configure it

add to repository:
deb ftp://ftp.videolan.org/pub/videolan/ubuntu
And run
% sudo apt-get update
% sudo apt-get install vlc vlc-plugin-esd mozilla-plugin-vlc libdvdcss2

how to add a repository:-
system--administration--synaptic package manager

a window will pop up
go to settings--repositories---third party software
add:
deb ftp://ftp.videolan.org/pub/videolan/ubuntu dapper universe
deb ftp://ftp.videolan.org/pub/videolan/ubuntu
